EFCC, FIRS Partner on Anti-corruption Fight

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, have promised to work together in order to win the war against corruption.

The Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr Ibrahim Magu disclosed this on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 while receiving the officials of the Federal Inland Revenue, Kwara State branch at the Ilorin Zonal Office.

Mr Magu who was represented by the Ilorin Zonal Head of the EFCC, Mr Isyaku Sharu, maintained that the Federal Inland Revenue remains a key stakeholder to the Commission, stressing that there is need to ensure a cordial relationship between the two Federal Government Agencies.
According to him ” The Federal Inland Revenue is an ex-officio of the commission, you are one of the major stakeholders, there is need for us to work together, the commission will continue to work with you in order to achieve success”, Sharu says.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, The State Controller of the Federal Inland Revenue, Agbabiaka Taofeek Abiodun commended the anti graft body for its ongoing fight against corruption, describing as the best way of stabilising the economy.

“Revenue is very key to our economy, some of the things we look for is issue of non compliance, issue of theft, the Federal Inland Revenue has no prosecutorial powers, that’s why we depend on you and law enforcement agencies”.

“We are ready and willing to do all what is possible in order to build and maintain cordial relationship between the two federal government agencies”, he added.
