Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, the President of the Court of Appeal has disqualified herself from the 2019 Presidential Election Petition Tribunal citing personal reasons and her satisfaction that the position of the law has been established.

Justice Bulkachuwa recused herself after the Tribunal dismissed the petition of the PDP and its Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, challenging her likelihood of bias on grounds of her relationship with her husband and son as Senator Elect and Governorship Candidate of the ruling APC respectively.

While delivering the judgment, the five man panel of the tribunal in a unanimous ruling, held that being a mother or wife of a politician is not weighty enough to disqualify her from sitting on the tribunal since both the husband and son were not party to the case before it.

The four remaining members of the panel will continue sitting and her replacement will be announced in due time.
