The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu on Thursday, May 9, 2019 reiterated that the Commission operates within the ambit of the rule of law in the discharge of its duties.
Magu stated this when he received officials of the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC Edo State, who paid a courtesy visit to the Benin Zonal Office of the Commission.
Magu spoke through Akaninyene Ezima, Head, Benin Zonal Office, while receiving a delegation led by the Coordinator, Sani Momodu.
He said: “We respect, uphold and protect the rights of the citizens in the discharge of our duties. Human rights issues are very important to the Commission.”
He further stated that the Commission will partner with the NHRC in whatever way to ensure the protection and promotion of citizen’s rights in the country.
Momodu noted that the visit was vital to actualizing the agency’s dual mandate of “promotion and protection” of the rights of citizens in Nigeria, adding that since the establishment of an operational base in the state in 2013, it had demonstrated expansive capacity to tackle issues of human rights.
“It is hoped that partnering with the EFCC in the areas of workshops and awareness creation and working together with the Zonal Head, we shall overcome a whole lot of the challenges militating against the promotion and protection of human rights in the society,” he said.
