Court remands man for allegedly swindling job seeker over N360,000

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Tuesday, remanded a 36-year-old man in prison over a N360,000 fraud.

The accused, Alex Koranteng, allegedly defrauded one Okiri Chioma of the said sum on the pretext of providing her an employment form for the Nigeria Immigration Service.


Koranteng and others allegedly at large committed the offence at the Immigration office, Federal Secretariat, Port Harcourt, on February 21, 2019.

The prosecutor, Inspector Olik Daniel, told the court that the offence contravened sections 8 (a) and 1(2)(3) of the Advanced Fee Fraud and other Related Offences Act, Laws of the Federation, 2016.

The court did not take the plea of the accused as it lacks the jurisdiction to entertain the matter.

The Chief Magistrate, M. O. Chuku, ordered the suspectto be remanded in prison custody and transferred the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.

Chuku adjourned the matter till July 19, 2019.
