At least nine shops destroyed in Kano gas explosion

Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje

At least nine shops have been destroyed following a gas explosion in the Ungog Local Government Area of Kano State.

Heraldnigeria.com learnt that a trailer was attempting to discharge its petroleum product at a shop where cooking gas was sold in Kadawa when it exploded on Friday morning.

The truck driver was also said to have been severely burnt during the incident, just as the fire spread to so many other shops in the area.

Residents in the area fled their homes as the fire raged and destroyed the shops.

The spokesman for the Kano State Fire Service, Seidu Mohammed, said fire fighters on arrival at the scene swung into action and extinguished the inferno.

Mohammed explained, “We received a distress call from Murtala on Katsina Road, Kano, through one Mallam Aliyu, that some shops had caught fire.

“However, the fire has been put under control, without recording any loss of life. The financial cost of the property destroyed by the fire is currently being assessed.’’
