Police arrest 105 suspected political thugs in Imo State

The Nigerian Police have arrested 105 suspected political thugs for various electoral offences during Saturday’s governorship and state assembly elections in Imo State.

The suspects were said to have been arrested for snatching ballot boxes, disrupting elections, harassing electoral officials and impersonating policemen.

The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Dazuki Galadanchi, who disclosed this on Sunday, explained that investigations had commenced into the various offences allegedly committed by the suspects in custody.

He stated that the poll was largely hitch-free and smooth across the state, adding that investigation had commenced into the killing of one person at Umudi, Nkwerre Local Government Area.

He said, “We have 105 suspects in custody. They were arrested for various electoral offences during the elections.”

Meanwhile, the delay in the collation and declaration of results is generating anxiety across the state.

Findings indicate that results from the polling booths were still being collated at the local government areas, sparking fears that the delay might be orchestrated to manipulate the outcomes.

Sources in the Independent National Electoral Commission said the final results were expected to be ready by 12:00 p.m.
