A leader of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Lawan Maina, has said the North-East deserves the Senate presidency as compensation for the devastation of the zone by Boko Haram.
He said the zone was ready to support former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Ali Ndume, who had expressed interest in leading the Senate.
Maina told reporters in Abuja on Thursday that the major stakeholders in Borno State had resolved to support Ndume for the post.
He said, “We have come out as a pressure group to present Senator Ali Ndume who is one of our illustrious sons to Nigerians. We are also going to meet with other stakeholders across the country for support, because we believe he is the right person for the job.”
Maina said the zone recorded the second highest number vote cast for President Muhammadu Buhari in the February 23 presidential election.
He said, “Don’t also forget that the North-East has remained a victim of conflict and insurgency. So, we need all the attention that we can muster to ensure the efforts of the government in reconstruction and rehabilitation.
“We believe so much in the President; we need someone who is genuinely concerned about the plight of the masses. Ndume has the pedigree.”
