The Nigerian Navy has recovered the two boats hijacked by militants on Saturday in the Bakassi area of Cross River State.

The boats were conveying the Independent National Electoral Commission’s ad hoc staff for election duty when they were accosted and abducted on the sea.

The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Frankland Briyai, disclosed this before the collation officer for the Bakassi Local Government Area, Prof Asera Enya Asera, presented his report on Sunday.

Briyai said, “One of the boats was recovered yesterday and the other one was recovered today.

“All our ad hoc staff are safe. We discovered that the riders of the boats did not have sufficient petrol in the boats before they set sail. Everything is okay now.”
