Magu Tasks Nigerian Youth on Corruption

 Ibrahim Magu

The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has described corruption as evil that could kill the society, urging Nigerian youth to be corruption fighters.

He made this appeal on Friday, March 29, 2019 to students of Coastland Schools, Ikorodu, Lagos during their excursion to the Commission’s Lagos Zonal Office.

Magu who was represented at the event by Muhammed Issa Rabo, Lagos Zonal Head of the Commission noted that corruption and economic crimes had given the country a bad name in the global community, adding that those who engage in corruption are enemies of the country.

“You must resolve from this young age that you will be corruption fighters and builders of the nation,” he said.

He further advised the students to shun the practice of using the Internet for criminal activities, noting that the Internet can be used either for good or bad purposes.

“You can use the Internet to develop yourselves. Those who use the Internet for yahoo-yahoo (internet fraud) cannot escape the wrath of the law because the long arm of the law will catch up with them some day and they will be made to pay for their criminal practices,” Magu said.

He informed the children that “crimes don’t pay, and there is no shortcut to success. I therefore, urge you to use the Internet to build our society.”

In his contribution, the Head, Public Affairs Directorate, PAD, Lagos, Oyewole Ayo noted the importance of building the minds of the youngsters around the virtue of integrity.

According to him, the most important thing in life is integrity.

“When your mind is full of positive values, you will also want to do positive things when you find yourselves in leadership positions later in life.”

Ayo urged the management of the school to set up an integrity club in the school, saying “It will further expose the students to the inherent dangers of corruption, thereby making them to live upright.”

In her remarks, Ayodele Obalisa-Christy, who led the students to the Commission’s Lagos Office, expressed her gratitude to the EFCC boss for availing the students the opportunity to visit the Commission as part of their school’s curriculum.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was the presentation of souvenir to the students by Rabo.
