The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ilorin Zonal Office on March 7, 2019 arraigned a suspected yahoo boy, Muhammad Umar Faruk, before Justice Babagana Ashigar of a Federal High Court, sitting in Ilorin on six-count charge bordering on Advanced Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offences Act and obtaining under false pretence.
One of the counts reads: “That you, Muhammad Umar Faruk (alias Morgan Chase), sometime in February 2019, at Ilorin, within the judicial division of the Federal High Court, with the intent of defraud, had in your possession a document containing false pretense, to wit: mails tagged Hangout with Jillayne MeGuire which you sent between 2nd and 5th October, 2018 to one Jillayne MaGuire while acting as Chase Morgan, a representation you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 6 & 8 (b) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the same Act.
He pleaded “not guilty” to the charges.
Prosecuting counsel, Christopher Mshelia, urged the court to give a date for trial and to order that the defendant be remanded in prison.
While adjourning to April 24, 2019 Justice Ashigar ordered the remand of the defendant in prison.
