Don’t Get Involved in Vote Buying, Selling, EFCC Warns NYSC Members

The Maiduguri Zonal Head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Lawrence Iwodi, has warned members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, serving in the state not to fall prey to vote buying, votes selling or inducement of voters, during the general elections.


He gave the advice when members of the EFCC, National Service Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Anti-corruption CDS group, Maiduguri, paid him a courtesy visit in his office on Thursday, February 28, 2019.

Iwodi, called on the corps members to continue with their good work in the fight against corruption.
“We are very happy that you have decided to tow a noble path, to come together to fight the monster called corruption in our society. It’s highly commendable. One of the cardinal goals of the present administration is the fight against corruption.”

On the issue of inducements of voters at the Internally Displaced Person’s camps, Iwodi disclosed that, the Commission has directed its operatives to give priority attention to monitoring the camps during and after the general elections.

Speaking at the occasion, Ibrahim Batta Wakil, the outgoing president of the group reiterated the continued resolve of the members in carrying out sensitization programmes in secondary schools, tertiary institutions of learning, and Internally Displaced Persons camps.

The anti-corruption CDS members highlighted some of the major achievements the group has recorded during the year. They include: sensitization programme in secondary schools, the Internally Displaced Person’s camps, radio programmes, and creation of EFCC anti-corruption clubs, amongst others.


According to Wakil, “in respect to the IDPs, we went to some camps for sensitization lecture before the commencement of the general elections and they complained to us that some individuals claiming to be NGOs requested for their PVCs before giving them assistance.

“The IDPs were educated on the negative consequences of giving out there PVCs, and urged them to report such individuals to the appropriate authorities.”

The incoming president of the anti-corruption CDS group, Udom Jackson, while introducing the new exco, promised to build on the legacies of the outgoing corps members.
