Armed robbers on Thursday invaded a hotel in Igwuruta, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State and killed a guest of the hotel.
It was gathered that the hoodlums had forced their way into the hotel without much hindrance and got those at the reception to take them to some of the rooms the guests were relaxing.
The guests were dragged to a place and ordered to lie on the ground while their belongings, including cash and mobile phones, were taken away from them.
A source close to one of the victims said the deceased had refused to lie on the ground when he was directed to do so by the armed robbers. This was said to have angered one of the hoodlums, who shot him.
“None of the armed robbers has been arrested. They (armed robbers) came; they wanted to collect the money they (guests) had in the hotel. So, they brought them out from their rooms and asked them to lie down.
“The man they shot refused to lie down. The robbers took the money and handsets belonging to the guests of the hotel. It happened on Thursday,” the source said.
Police came in on Friday morning and arrested some workers of the hotel for interrogation.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident, but added that he would need to contact the Divisional Police Officer in Igwuruta to get details about the robbery incident.
Omoni, however, added that investigation had since begun with a view to apprehending those behind the robbery and the killing.
