Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos has convicted and sentenced Dandy Eze, President, Path of Peace Initiatives, and Solomon Johnson to one year in prison.
The convicts were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday, January 11, 2019 on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy to commit a felony and acceptance of bribe.
They were alleged to have demanded the sum of N50 million as bribe from a company, WAHUM Nigeria Limited, with the claim that they wanted to help facilitate the withdrawal of a purported petition with the EFCC, written against it.
The sum of N1 million (One Million Naira) was afterwards received by them, through an account operated by Johnson, as part payment of the bribe.
They had pleaded “not guilty” to the charge when they were arraigned on January 11, 2019.
At today’s sitting, February 21, 2019 the defendants changed their plea to “guilty”, after entering into a plea bargain with the prosecution.
Delivering judgment, Justice Dada, found them guilty on all the counts and convicted them accordingly, sentencing them to one month in prison, with an option of N250,000 as fine.
They were also ordered to refund the sum of N1,000,000 to WAHUM Nigeria Limited.
