Teenager remanded for armed robbery in Lagos

An 18-year-old motorcyclist, Sodiq Adedeji, who allegedly attacked a man, Lanre Shoremi, with a knife and robbed him of his motorcycle, has been remanded in the Kirikiri Prison on the order of an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The presiding magistrate, Mr A. A. Fashola, remanded the defendant in prison pending advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

Fashola adjourned the case till March 20, 2019, for advice by the DPP.

The defendant, whose plea was not taken, was earlier arraigned on two counts of conspiracy and armed robbery.

According to the police prosecutor, Michael Unah, the defendant and his gang members allegedly armed themselves with a knife and other dangerous weapons and robbed Soremi of his motorcycle valued at N250,000.

Unah said the defendant committed the offences with others still at large on December 28, 2018, around 5.01am at Oniwaya junction, Agege, Lagos.

He said the complainant raised the alarm and the defendant was apprehended by passersby.

Unah said the offences contravene sections 296 and 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (revised) and that Section 299 provided a 21-year jail term for offenders.
