Man Arraigned for N5.4m Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on February 13, 2019 arraigned one Anas Abdulkadir before Justice Farouq Lawal of a Kano State High Court on a one-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust.


The charge reads: “That you, Alh. Anas Abdulkadir, on or about November – December 2016, at Kano, within the jurisdiction of the Kano State High Court being entrusted with certain property to wit: 1,500 bags of pepper belonging to Alh. Abbas Nasidi property entrusted to you for storage in a warehouse to sell only at the instruction of the owner, did dishonestly misappropriated 800 bags valued at N5,467,000 (the sum equivalent to the 800 bags of pepper misappropriated), and thereby committed offence contrary to section 311 of the Penal Code and punishable under section 312 of the same Act.”

He pleaded “not guilty” to the charge.

In view of his plea, prosecuting counsel, Musa Isah, asked the court for a date for hearing.

Defence counsel, Sani Ammani, however, moved an application for the bail of his client.


Justice Lawan, thereafter, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 and a reliable surety in like sum, who must have a landed property within Kano jurisdiction or a civil servant in Kano, either State or Federal to deposit his identity card and a letter from his office to prove he works there.

The court further ordered that he should be remanded in EFCC custody till he fulfils his bail condition.

The case has been adjourned to March 6, 2019.
