The robbery suspects

The Kano State Police Command, on Thursday, smashed a three-man robbery gang suspected to be behind various robberies in the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Wakili Mohammed, disclosed this during a media briefing in Kano.

He said, “A syndicate of suspected armed robbers that is constantly striking and dispossessing residents of Sheka, Zoo Road, Tudun Maliki, Tukuntawa and Maidile Quarter has been smashed.

“Members of the gang, who were arrested, were Auwalu Adamu, Muhammed Suleman and Abdullahi Iliyasu, all of the Sheka Quarter, and an English-made pistol was recovered from them.”

In a related development, another suspect, Abubakar Ahmed, of Mile 9, Kano, who was said to be a member of a gang that specialised in snatching exotic cars, was arrested in a raid on a criminal hideout.

He was said to have conspired with others now at large to snatch cars from their owners on the highway.

Such vehicles are then driven to their hideout, disassembled and sold as spare parts to unsuspecting members of the public.

The CP said, “Vehicles recovered from their hideout were a Toyota Hiace commercial bus, one Golf wagon and a Hummer.

“Similarly, another set of suspected car thieves, who snatched a Toyota Hilux, were also arrested. The arrested suspects are Ibrahim Bashir and Yakuza Bilyaminu of the Ladanai Quarter, Kano. They were arrested with the vehicle in question. Investigations are ongoing.”
