Governor Wike’s aide regains freedom two weeks after abduction

The Special Adviser to the Rivers State Government, Dr. Anugbum Onuoha, has regained freedom 14 days after he was abducted by unknown gunmen.

Security operatives had been combing the creeks since January 18, 2019 in search of Onuoha when he was abducted.

Onuoha was said to have been released in the early hours of Saturday after pressure was mounted on the kidnappers by joint security agencies.

According to a source, Onuoha was freed on Saturday morning without any injuries.

Confirming the development, spokesperson for the police in the state, Nnamdi Omoni, said Onuoha was currently receiving medical attention.

A statement from the Rivers State Police Command on Saturday read, “The special adviser to the governor of Rivers State on Lands and Survey has regained his freedom.

“He was released in the early hours of today(Saturday) from his abductors by the joint efforts of the security agencies in the state. He has been debriefed and currently receiving medical attention.

“Meanwhile, the manhunt for his abductors is still on and the command will spare no effort in bringing them to justice.

“The CP wishes to appeal to the public to continue to have confidence in us and trust in our ability to make the state safe, even as we approach the 2019 elections.”
