Don’t alter Shomolu Constituency results, PDP warns INEC

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu

Members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Shomolu Federal Constituency II of Lagos have warned the Independent National Electoral Commission against altering the results of the constituency in the National Assembly election held last Saturday.

The protesters, who displayed placards, stormed the Lagos State INEC office in Yaba on Tuesday, urging the commission to declare the results and not subvert the will of the people of the constituency.

The Electoral Officer of the Shomolu Federal Constituency, Prof Ola Aluko, had declared the results of the election in the constituency inconclusive, based on alleged irregularities.

The Director-Genenal, Idowu Olowu Campaign Organisation, Mr Benjamin Ogunji, said any attempt by INEC to declare an altered result would be resisted by the PDP.

He said, “On election day, INEC‘s rule was not complied with. We have lost confidence in the electoral officer, Prof. Aluko. He can no longer be seen as an umpire in this election.

“We will not tolerate anything that will subvert the will of our people. Enough of the rigging and intimidation. They have asked us to agree to a rerun, but we ask them; on what basis?”
