The All Progressives Congress in Ebonyi State has rejected the outcome of Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections and called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to cancel the results.
The Chairman of the party in the state, Chief Eze Nwachukwu, made the party’s position known during a press conference at the party’s secretariat on Tuesday in Abakaliki.
Nwachukwu alleged widespread irregularities, including underage voting, thumb-printing of ballot papers, harassment, arrest of the APC agents, and violence against party members.
He accused the Peoples Democratic Party of colluding with INEC workers, police and other security agencies to rig the elections.
He further alleged that Smart Card Readers were not used for accreditation and voting in line with the election guidelines.
He said, “We informed the police, INEC and civil society groups prior to the elections through our petitions of plots by some persons to buy votes and to create violence in parts of the state and this played out in the election.”
He alleged that the senatorial and House of Representatives election results for Ebonyi Central and Ezza South and Ikwo Federal Constituency collation was moved to the INEC state headquarters against the provision of the electoral law.
But, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Lovett Odah, reacting to the allegation said the command had not received report of involvement of its personnel deployed for election duty in malpractices.
