Pregnant woman, others escape as trailer rams into vehicles

A pregnant woman and several others narrowly escaped death on Wednesday in a multiple motor accidents in Onitsha, Anambra State.


The accident, which occurred near Building Materials market Ogidi axis of the Onitsha-Enugu express way, involved an articulated lorry and nine other vehicles moving towards former toll gate.

A witness said the driver of the sand-ladden lorry with registration number XS 601 KRD, was on a top speed when it suddenly lost control and rammed into other moving vehicles.

A passenger in one of the affected vehicles, Cajethan Okotti, who said he was traveling to Taraba, said the tipper hit their vehicle from the rear before finally crashing into a ditch.

“Our vehicle was on motion when we suddenly heard sound of multiple crashes of vehicles from behind with the tipper hitting our vehicle before it finally fell on its side.

“I really pitied a pregnant woman who was in our vehicle when the accident.

“But we thank God no casualty was recorded despite the impact of the accident,” he said.
