House of Rep. member, Funke Adedoyin, is dead

Rep. Funke Adedoyin, a member of the House of Representatives from Kwara State is dead.


Adedoyin, who was a one time Minister of Women Affairs under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, was said to have died in Abuja in the early hours of Friday.

She represented Ekiti, Isin, Irepodun Oke-Ero Federal Constituency in Kwara South before her death.

Princess Omolola Olobayo, a close relation of the deceased, confirmed her death to newsmen on Friday in Omu-Aran.

She said that: “the lawmaker travelled abroad for routine check up on her health situation but we believed that she will survive it but she gave up the ghost this morning (Friday)”.

A member of the state executive council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who sought anonymity also confirmed the death of the lawmaker.

The source added that, “the state leadership of the PDP is yet to make official statement over the death of Hon. Funke Adedoyin because the family is yet to make it’s official statement on her death”.


Meanwhile, Hon. Ali Ahmad, the Speaker of the Kwara state House of Assembly, has described the death of Adedoyin as sudden and tragic.

Ahmad, in a message issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Malam Shuaib Abdulkadir, described the demise of the federal lawmaker as a colossal loss to the people of her constituency, the family and the entire PDP family.

Ahmad, who lamented that Kwara state has lost one of her best representatives, however, prayed to God to give the family and the state the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

He added: “Without mincing words, the late legislator had performed excellently in the House of Representatives within the last three and half years despite being a first timer at the hallowed chambers.”
