A female media practitioner, Mrs Ify Obinabo, has assumed duty as the first female caretaker chairman of Orumba North local government area of Anambra state.
Obinabo, a former staff of the state owned media outfit, Anambra Broadcasting Service, (ABS), was first appointed by the State governor, Willie Obiano as Special Assistant to the governor on Agriculture.
Speaking during the event, the journalist, known as a renowned farmer, pledged to turn around the fortune of the council area using agriculture as her main focus.
She said the appointment was in line with her burning desire to serve her people, especially at the grassroots.
“I invite you all, especially my fellow farmers to give me all the necessary support so we can take our local government to the next level,” she said.
While lauding the developmental strides of her predecessor, Emeka Aforka, Obinabo promised to intensify efforts to sustain the tempo of development already existing in the council.
Earlier, the former Transition Chairman, Emeka Aforka, said his administration initiated and completed several life touching and people oriented projects, amidst meagre resources.
He thanked the governor for the opportunity given him to serve, just as he appreciated members of the council for the maximum collaboration he enjoyed while on office.
He however urged them to extend such corporation to his successor to enable her consolidate on the achievements and successes recorded in the council.
