Woman held for ‘burning’ son’s hands

A 30-year-old woman, Juliet Moses, has been apprehended by the Niger State Child Rights Agency for allegedly burning her three-year-old son’s hands with hot charcoal.

The suspect said her son stole from her neighbour’s pot and she burnt his hands to teach him a lesson.

“My neighbour told me that my son entered her room and stole food from her pot. When I confronted him, he refused to confess, so I put hot charcoal on his hands. I did not know it would burn his hands,” she said.

Juliet was reported to the agency by neighbours.

The Director-General, Mariam Kolo, said the woman should be taken to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation.
