Tanker crushes four to death in Port-Harcourt

Four persons were yesterday crushed to death by a tanker in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

The unfortunate incident occurred at 3:40 pm at Rumuapara-Port Harcourt on the East-West Road in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

The tanker was heading for the Port Harcourt Refining Company Limited in Eleme near Port Harcourt when it rammed into the four persons drinking in a bar.

It killed them on the spot.

The driver, according to witnesses, lost control of the vehicle, after brake failure, dragging a parked Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) within the Rumuapara junction.

It destroyed the building before crushing the four victims with many persons also injured.

Policemen from the nearby Rumuokoro Divisional Police Headquarters, Port Harcourt removed the bodies of the victims after arresting the tanker driver.

Rivers Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nnamdi Omoni, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), could not be reached as at press time for comments.
