Refrigerator repairer remanded for allegedly defiling minor

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, at the weekend, remanded a 30-year-old refrigerator repairer, Stanley Mbagwe, in prison custody for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl.

Magistrate B.O. Osunsanmi said the accused should be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons, and the case file sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPPs) for legal advice.

She adjourned the case till June 4 for mention.

Mbagwe, who lives in Isolo, Lagos State, is facing one-count charge of defilement.

Prosecutor Ezekiel Ayorinde told the court the accused allegedly committed the offence on May 1 in Ire-Akari, Okota, Lagos State.

He alleged the accused had carnal knowledge of the girl when he went to repair a refrigerator at her parents’ home and discovered they were not in.

“He took her into the room, removed her panties, had sexual intercourse with her and begged her not to tell anybody.

“Neighbours, however, saw sperm gushing out of her private part and asked what happened.

“She told them what transpired between her and the accused,” Ayorinde alleged.

He said the girl’s parents reported the case to the police and the accused was arrested.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
