Court Sentences Man to Jail for fraud

The Benin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,  on Friday,  April 20, 2018 secured the conviction of one Henry Adubairu for obtaining money fraudulently. .

Adubairu who was arraigned on a two count charge of obtaining by false pretence, before Justice P.I.Ajoku of the Federal High Court, Benin City, Edo State, pleaded guilty to the two count charge when read to him.

One of the counts reads: “That you Henry Adubairu (a.k.a) Daudu Mary Christiana on or about the 12th day of February ,2018 in Igara within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did by means of fraudulent trick obtained the sum of One Hundred Thousand (N100,000) from Kayode Segun thereby committed an offence contrary to section 421 of the Criminal Code Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, C39,2004 and punishable under same Act”. In view of his plea,  the prosecution counsel, Abieyuwa Uson-Iriabe prayed the court to convict and sentence the defendant accordingly. .

However,  the defence counsel, Moses Oriazowanlan, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy as his client has become remorseful and “has promised to be of good behaviour”, adding that the convict has also made restitution to his victim.

Justice P.I.Ajoku thereafter sentenced the defendant to one month imprisonment on each of the two counts and the sentences are to run concurrently.
