The police in Maiduguri on Thursday confirmed the killing of two male pupils at a primary school in Kwayar Kusar Local Government Area of Borno State.
In a statement sent in by the Police Public Relation Officer DSP Victor Isuku however said the killing was not a terrorist act but was carried out by a man ‘suspected to be of unsound mind’.
According to Mr. Isuku, the suspect at about 9.30 am on Thursday entered Jafi Primary School armed with a matchet and hacked two male pupils to death and wounded a female teacher.
His action, Mr. Isuku noted prompted some irate youth in the town who almost mobbed him to death but was rescued by the police in an unconscious state.
The Statement reads; “Today Thursday 30/11/17 at about 0930 hrs, one Gaji Adamu ‘male’ of kubu village of kwaya kusar LGA, suspected to be of unsound mind, armed with matchete entered into Jafi Primary School, Kwaya Kusar town and matcheted two male pupils to death. While a teacher and a female pupil was wounded in the attack.
“As a result, irate youths mobbed the suspect, who is now unconscious and admitted in hospital under protective custody.
“The Corpses and injured have been evacuated to Gombe general hospital,” the statement explained.
The statement also added that “Borno State Commissioner of Police Mr. Damian Chukwu has directed the Divisional police officer of Kwaya kusar Division to transfer the suspect to The State Criminal investigation and intelligence department (CIID) for a discreet investigation as well as to determine the mental state of the suspect”.
