Governor Okorocha presents N190b budget for 2018

Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha yesterday presented a N190 billion budget to the House of Assembly.

The “Budget of Consolidation and Continuity III” is higher than last year’s by 45.58 per cent.

Capital expenditure got N132.98 billion, representing 69.70 per cent while recurrent expenditure got N57.943 billion, representing 30.30 per cent.

Okorocha said the budget would consolidate on development efforts as well as ensure prudence and efficiency in expenditure.

He added: “This administration intends to use the limited resources at its disposal to achieve maximum impact. We intend to achieve synergy through collaboration and integration of programmes and projects to realise our vision of making Imo better.

“All relevant agencies of government will be strengthened to gear up towards their constitutional responsibilities to ensure that all programmes and projects are being monitored always.”

A further breakdown of the budget showed that Works and Transport got the bulk allocation of N39,811,300, followed by education, N13,500,000.

Agriculture and Environment has N7,622,990,049, while the least is Culture, N440,244,096.

The Speaker, Acho Ihim, said the House would continue to work with the Rescue Mission government.

He promised that the lawmakers will give the budget the attention it deserves.
