Borno Police to create 3 additional Area Commands in Borno

The Borno Police Command on Thursday announced plans to establish three new Area Commands, to enhance effective policing in the crisis ravaged state.

The Commissioner, Mr Damian Chukwu, made the disclosure at a news briefing in Maiduguri.

Chukwu said that the new offices would be sited at Monguno, Benishiekh and Uba, noting that this brings the number of the area commands in the state to six.

He explained that the command also planned to create additional divisional offices in the local government councils of the state to enhance its operations.

“The creation of area commands would bring the police closer to the people and enhance security network in the state,” he said.

Chukwu added that the command had concluded arrangements to deploy adequate personnel for the yuletide, adding that the measure was necessary to ensure peaceful celebrations during the festive season.

The commissioner disclosed that the command also arrested three persons impersonating as officials of a Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and defrauding people in the metropolis.

“Following a tip up that some unscrupulous elements were impersonating as staff of an NGO, Save the Children, and extorting money from displaced persons at 777 and 1, 000 Housing Estates. We conducted a raid and arrested them between November 22 and 23, respectively’.

He listed the suspects as Hadiza Zanna, Malgana Mohammed and Halima Mohammed.

The commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to the protectionof lives and property.
