A total of 37,883 police personnel have been promoted since the Inspector General of Police (IG) Ibrahim Idris assumed duty in June, 2016.
Idris spoke in Abuja yesterday after he met with Commissioners of Police and other senior officers.
About 4,558 senior officers were promoted to various ranks and 33,325 Inspectors and Rank and file have also been affected by the promotion.
Giving details of the promotion for senior officers, the Force spokesman, CSP Jimoh Moshood, said: “Since the inception of this administration, Seven DIGs were promoted, 29 CPs were promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police, 55 Deputy Commissioners of Police were promoted to the rank of CPs, four Acting CPs were promoted to CPs while one Ag. DCP was promoted to CP.
“One hundred and forty Assistant Commissioners of Police were promoted to DCP, 182 CSP to ACP, 12 SP to CSP, 793 DSP to SP, 3144 ASP to DSP and 191 Inspectors to ASP.”
For the Inspectorate cadre and the rank and file, Moshood said: “About 9,390 Sergeants were promoted to the rank of Inspector, 23,498 Corporal were promoted to Sergeant and 437 Police Constable were promoted to Corporal.”
The Force spokesman explained that the promotion was done because of the special attention the IG and his management team pays to the welfare of the personnel.
