Army destroys illegal refineries in Edo, arrest two

An illegal refinery in Obazagbon village, Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo State has been destroyed by men of the 4 Brigade, Benin, who arrested two persons in the process.

The illegal refinery had several storage tanks that were used to distil petroleum products and pipes used to transport fuel into tankers

Over 300,000 litres of crude oil and refined products were said to have been destroyed during the exercise even as the operators had fled before the place was raided.

One of tea two arrested was a woman, who was arrested at the site of the illegal refinery with gallons.

Commandant of the 4, Brigade, Brigadier-General Ibrahim Garba, who led the operation, urged the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to install sensors on its pipelined and use helicopters for surveillance.

He pointed out that the Army Special Force would not tolerate a sabotage of the Nigerian economy by criminals.

He warned that all forms of criminal activities such as kidnapping, assassination and armed robbery would be confronted by his men.

He commended members of the public for providing information that led to the discovery of the camp.
