A married school teacher in Texas, who was accused of having sex with a teenage student, was all smiles as police took her mug shots to post for the public.
The Lockhart Police Department said that they have arrested 27-year-old Sarah Fowlkes, after being accused of having an ongoing sexual relationship with the 17-year-old boy.
Fowlkes has been charged with one count of sexual contact with the intent. She was booked into the Caldwell County Jail.
Fowlkes faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
According to the police investigation, Fowlkes earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from the St. Edward’s University.
At the time of the crime, she taught anatomy, physiology and environmental systems at the Lockhart High School. She previously taught third and fifth grade at Plum Creek Elementary School in Lockhart.
When the school learned of the allegations, the teacher was suspended. Fowlkes turned herself in to police when she learned that she was wanted.
When police took mug shots, Fowlkes was all smiles. Fowlkes’ defense attorney said that his client smiled because she knows she is innocent.
