Man charged with unlawful possession of pistol

Chionye Dickson, a 35-year-old unemployed man, who allegedly had in his possession a locally made pistol, was on Thursday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The accused, who resides in Layeni area of Ikorodu in Lagos State, is facing a charge of unlawful possession of arms.

The prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Inuoha told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 28 at Layeni Junction, Ikorodu.

Inuoha said the accused was stopped by some policemen on patrol and when he was searched, a pistol and two cartridges were found on him.

“When he was asked how he came about the pistol or what he intended to do with it, he could not give a satisfactory explanation.”

The offence contravened Section 310 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011, according to the prosecutor.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B. O. Osunsanmi, adjourned the case until April 13 for mention.
