A man suffered serious burns after he fell asleep on a train on his way home from his girlfriend’s house, according to police in New York.
The New York Police Department said that they have arrested 18-year-old Christopher Jackson of Queens, after being accused of setting fire to 30-year-old Piotr Olszewski.
Jackson has been charged with arson, reckless endangerment and assault.
According to the criminal complaint, on Friday around 2:30 a.m., Olszewski woke up and saw that he was engulfed in flames.
He cried from pain while Jackson yelled into his phone that he set a man on fire. The teen was also laughing as he watched the victim burn.
Olszewski managed to put out the flames with his hands. As a result of the attack, Olszewski suffered second-degree burns on his hands and arms.
He was rushed to the burn unit of the New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
Olszewski said that he was attacked after falling asleep on the trip on his way home.
