A construction worker was shocked to find the remains of a homeless man inside the holding cell of an abandoned police station, according to police in New Jersey.
The Paterson Police Department said that the remains were found on Monday, as the construction worker went into the abandoned building to work on the reconstruction.
The building has been abandoned more than 30 years ago following a fire that destroyed the entire police station.
Investigators believe that the homeless man accidentally locked himself inside the holding cell as he was seeking shelter. The man probably died about 10 years ago, according to evidence left behind at the scene.
Police found an empty water bottle and prescription pills.
