On August 8th, a skyscaper was blown to smithereens in China’s downtown Datong city, Shanxi province , right next to an ancient city wall.
According to NetEase, the local government conducted the explosive demolition in order to improve the view from Datong’s “old city,” by getting rid of a 90-meter-tall eyesore near Wuding Gate.
The giant blast broke the city’s sernity, sending dust floating into the sky and covering the ancient city wall.
