The parents of a newborn baby in Spain, were told that they cannot name their son Wolf as it is offensive.

Ignacio and Maria Javierre had a baby boy at the Hospital de Fuenlabrada, Madrid, on Tuesday.

They filled out the paperwork for the birth certificate, and decided to name their boy โ€œLobo,โ€ which translates to wolf in English.

The parents claim that Wolf is a gorgeous name, and is equivalent to Lion or Dove.

However, the Registry of Fuenlabrada, notified the parents that they will not accept Wolf as the childโ€™s first name because it might be offensive to the boy.

When the parents asked why they consider Wolf offensive, a spokesperson told them that since Wolf is a last name in the country, it cannot be used as a first name.

The parents rejected the reason because there are many names in the country that are used as first and last names.

The couple has launched a petition on change.org, hoping to collect enough signatures to convince the registry to allow them to name their son Wolf.

After collecting more than 20,000 signatures, a government official notified the parents that they will be allowed to name their son Wolf.
