Police officer leaves loaded gun in public toilet after girlfriend broke up with him by text message

A police officer is facing a charge of professional misconduct after
allegedly leaving a loaded gun in a public toilet, according to police
in Sweden.

Jamtland police said that the officer, who was not identified, placed
his loaded service weapon on the floor of the department toilet and
left.

The public has access to the bathroom. Luckily, the gun was found by his
colleagues, who alerted their superior officer. A professional
misconduct charge was filed against the officer.

During questioning, the officer told investigators that before going to
the toilet, he received a text message from his girlfriend, notifying
him that she ended their relationship.

The officer became very distraught, and his thoughts were elsewhere when he placed the weapon on the floor of the bathroom.

The officer has received an official warning. A panel ruled that news of a breakup does not excuse negligent conduct.
