A bear managed to break into a locked car and snatched several protein
bars that were left behind by the vehicle’s owners, according to police
in Canada.
North Vancouver police said that the very hungry bear broke into the parked car overnight to get its fill of protein bars.

The incident occurred sometime in the early hours of Wednesday, while
the vehicle was parked in front of a residence on Panorama Drive.

The owners of the vehicle woke up to discover their vehicle had been
broken into by a bear. The bear that left the car with broken windows,
attempted to pry open a door and ripped apart the vehicle’s interior.

The unknown bear left numerous paw prints, claw marks and fur. There
was evidence that it had consumed a box of protein bars that had been
left in the vehicle.

This is the second such incident reported on the North Shore in the last
several days, said Cpl. Richard De Jong of the North Vancouver RCMP.

The message to not leave any food items at all in your vehicle is one
worth repeating, he said. Bears have a very keen sense of smell and
incredible strength, enabling them to cause the damage they do.

All North Shore residents are encouraged to educate themselves on bear
safety and the precautions that need to be taken to keep the community,
personal property and bears safe.
