Borno state Governor grants 22 prisoners amnesty to mark independence

Yesterday 1st October, the Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima granted 22 prisoners amnesty during an unscheduled visit to the Maiduguri Maximum Security Prison in celebration of Nigeria’s independence.

According to governor Shettima, the amnesty granted to the 22 prisoners is been recommended by the State Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy.

Addressing the prisoners, he said “You are in prison today because it has been destined by the Almighty God. It does not mean the end of your lives. Even some holy prophets were in one time or the other imprisoned but they came out the better” he said.

Before leaving, he donated a 27 KVA power generating set to the prison and also announced approval for the release of N5million to the prison authorities to enable them carry out general renovation of decaying facilities.
