A group of Chinese tourists recently ran into some trouble upon arriving in Amsterdam after a frightening Dutch taxi driver demanded that they pay a small fortune for a quick ride.

The tourists arrived at Schiphol airport, located 9 kilometers southwest of Amsterdam, and asked a cab driver to take them to their hotel in the west of the city. They arrived at their destination after a 20-minute trip. The driver then asked them for (an oddly precise) €485 (3600 RMB).

“‘That is a scary number,’ I said,” one of the Chinese tourists told Telegraaf TV. “And then he started driving, nonstop.”

First, the tourists tried screaming for help and then one of them managed to break a window, causing the driver to stop. Some of the tourists fled the car, but one of them remained trapped inside with the driver and their baggage.

According to Dutch News.nl, the tourists eventually agreed to pay €100 for the trip and were given back their luggage.

Police are searching for the driver.

Amsterdam last raised China’s ire back in January when two Dutch guys posted videos of themselves online throwing milk powder at innocent Asian passersby on the street in what they called a “prank.”
