EFCC Arraigns Businessman for N2.6million Auto Fraud

The Abuja Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned Mohammed Saleh Amshi before Justice A.A Fashola of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court sitting in Jabi, Abuja for alleged misappropriation of money to the tune of N2, 600,000( Two Million, Six Hundred Thousand Naira only)

The one-count charge read: ‘that you Mohammed Saleh Amshi dishonestly misappropriated the sum of N2.6m(Two Million Six Hundred Thousand Naira only) realized from the sale of a Honda Accord 2014 model car belonging to one Abdulhamid Umar and you thereby committed an offense contrary to Section 308 and punishable under Section 309 of the Penal Code”.
Amshi pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
Defence Counsel, P.P Goshit and Ijonu Gabriel thereafter applied orally for bail of the defendant.
Justice Fashola admitted Amshi to bail in the sum of N1, 000, 000 (One Million Naira only) and one surety in like sum. The surety must have a verifiable place of work and property within the court’s jurisdiction
Justice Fashola adjourned the matter till May 31, 2022 for commencement of trial and remanded the defendant at a Correctional Centre.
Amshi’s got into trouble when he allegedly bought a Honda Accord 2014 model car for a petitioner, who discovered that the car was faulty. He returned the car and requested for refund of his money. The defendant allegedly sold the car in the sum of N2.6m and failed to refund the petitioner.
