Prominent citizens of Imo North (Okigwe) Senatorial Zone in Imo State have disowned the results of the February 23 senatorial election as well as the March 9, 2019 senatorial re-run election in the zone.

They said nothing less than the total cancellation of the results would assuage the people of the zone.

The spokesman for the Okigwe leaders, Chief Athan Anyanwu, on Tuesday said the Independent National Electoral Commission had made itself a laughing stock with three conflicting results allegedly emanating from one election.

Anyanwu alleged that one of the results showed Senator Ben Uwajumogu of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the election, while another result on INEC’s website shows Charles Onyirimba of the All Progressives Grand Alliance as the winner.

He further claimed that a third result indicated that Mr Ndubuisi Emenike of Action Alliance won the election

“With this confusion, the people of the zone have lost confidence in whatever result INEC has,” he said.

He regretted the violence experienced in the zone, saying the silence of INEC on some of the disturbing security reports in the zone during the elections showed the complicity of the electoral body.
