In light of the nationwide demonstrations against the high cost of living last Wednesday, the Federal Government has dropped its contempt case against organized labor, according to NLC President Joe Ajaero on Monday.

The โ€œnotice of consequences of disobedience to order of courtโ€ also titled โ€œForm 48,โ€ was filed before the National Industrial Court in Abuja last week.

The suit accused the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria of resisting an order restricting the unions from embarking on industrial action.

Speaking to Channels Television’s Politics Today, Ajaero said that the National Executive Committee of the NLC had decided to take further action in response to the Industrial Court and Ministry of Justice’s stance. This action would be taken through the Solicitor General of the Federation.

โ€œThen the NEC of the NLC rose up, giving up till 14th of August to withdraw such summons for contempt or face real industrial action,โ€ he said.

โ€œBut equally, this afternoon, the Ministry of Justice through the Solicitor General of the Federation sent a letter to us withdrawing that charge.โ€
