Greek Cypriot Andreas Soutzi, who was detained for photographing the military forbidden zone, was sentenced to 1 month in prison.

Greek Cypriot Andreas Soutzi (M-58), who was detained for crossing into the TRNC and photographing the military forbidden zone, was sentenced to 1 month in prison.

In the case that was heard at the Military Court in Nicosia, Judge Murat Soytaรง announced the decision regarding Soutzi at around 15.30.

Soytaรง stated that the defendant did not have any bad intentions while photographing the military forbidden zone and that he photographed it for souvenir purposes, that he did not record any military elements, equipment, units or movements, that he would not use these photographs to commit another crime, and that an evaluation was made taking into account the defendant’s good condition during the trial.

Stating that the crime in question is a serious crime that requires up to 5 years in prison and can endanger the country, public and military security, Soytaรง noted that the defendant was given a prison sentence that would bind freedom, and that a one-month prison sentence was deemed appropriate.

Soytaรง also announced that it was decided to delete the seized evidence and the criminal data found in the electronic devices and return them to Soutzi.
