Suspects involved in brutal beating of African student arraigned, granted bail

The suspects were once again brought to court within the scope of the investigation launched in relation to the beating of a person by many attackers whose security camera footage was displayed on social media, which caused an outrage in Nicosia.

The suspects, A.S (F-15), ร–.S (M-17), H.B (M-19), A.S (M-18), E.F.Y (M-19), S.A (M-16), F.C.G (M-18), B.S (M-31) and M.A (M-38) appeared before the court today.

The hearing was closed because the suspect A.S. was 15 years old.

The suspects in question had seriously battered resident Willian Antony Peters in Nicosia with a baseball bat and wooden stick on the grounds that he had beaten their friends after they had gathered illegally on Kyrenia Street in Nicosia at around 17:00 on 11.09.2022.

The police stated that the investigation regarding the matter was completed and demanded that the suspects be given a suitable guarantee in order to ensure their presence in their cases in the future.

Evaluating the testimony given in his presence, Judge Hazal Hacฤฑmulla said that the suspects were banned from going abroad for the purpose of being present at the trial; report to the nearest police station once a week, deposit a cash collateral of 5 thousand TL each and a TRNC citizen guarantor sign a bond of 150 thousand TL each.

He ordered them to be tried pending trial on the condition that she sign a bail bond.
