Ersin Tatar, who is in the office of the Presidency, made a statement about the adoption of the “(Special) Law on the Unification of Municipalities” with a majority of votes.
Ersin Tatar’s statement is as follows:
โAs a result of the long work we carried out yesterday until this morning, the General Assembly adopted the (Special) Draft Law on the Unification of Municipalities, which was discussed item by item, as a result of a democratic process.
With this decision taken by our Supreme Assembly, which is the representation of the will of our people, the biggest step has been taken in solving the structural problems of our municipalities.
The municipalities that meet the urban needs directly are accepted as the closest administrative bodies to the people, and are our intertwined institutions with the public, in a much more effective, fast and efficient way.
The way has been opened to provide quality service.
With this law, which will enable the restructuring of municipalities, the physical and human opportunities of the municipalities that are more numerous will be combined to provide better quality and efficient service to the public.
Our common goal is; municipalities should be able to respond to the conditions of the day and the expectations of the people.
In an environment where the necessary legal arrangements to provide effective service to our people in accordance with the current conditions are so delayed, the reform efforts regarding the municipalities will come to life immediately with the bill passed yesterday in the General Assembly.
It is an important gain for local governments, and therefore, directly for our people.โ
