Cyprus Turkish Businessmen Association (İŞAD) pointed out that by switching to natural gas and liquid fuel in electricity generation, the public can use cheaper electricity.

In the written statement of İŞAD, the subject of electricity, which he described as “the bleeding wound of the country”, “the electricity demand cannot be met, the country is doomed to darkness, traffic accidents occur due to the darkness of the roads, the patients are in a difficult situation, the biggest input item of production and tourism is not given electricity incentives. He noted that it was one of the most important agenda items because many tradesmen closed their businesses due to electricity and excessive cost, which is the biggest expense item.

İŞAD stated that it is doing research and looking for solutions for the solution of all these issues, and said:

“Due to the instability of the political structure, the ever-changing ministers and executive cadres, the cumbersome public structure, the union executives with ulterior motives and some people in the business world, like many other issues, this issue has still not been resolved. So are we going to succumb to this situation? Will we continue to use electricity dearly? We use four main electricity supply methods; Teknecik power plant (40 USD / CENT and above), Aksa energy (20 USD / CENT), Southern Cyprus (45 EURO / CENT), SPP fields…

We learned that we could not turn to alternative energy models due to the lack of infrastructure despite supplying with all these methods. In the long run, if this infrastructure problem is solved or an interconnected line is connected, the use of alternative energy sources can be increased and electricity costs can be reduced.

When we deepened the research, we learned that there are floating power plants working with natural gas and liquid fuel, there is no obstacle in terms of supplying electricity to our country, and most importantly, we can supply half or even a third of the prices we currently supply (between 11 and 19 USD/cent). Why don’t we do it when we can supply electricity so cheaply, don’t the people of the TRNC deserve to use cheap electricity?”
