King Charles Sends Best Wishes to England for Final, Calls for Less Drama

King Charles, in a message to England coach Gareth Southgate and his players, expressed his admiration and offered his best wishes for the upcoming final

Britain’s King Charles congratulated the England football team for their thrilling 2-1 victory over the Netherlands in the Euro 2024 semi-final on Wednesday.

In a dramatic match, substitute Ollie Watkins scored in the 91st minute, securing England’s place in their second consecutive European Championship final.

The match seemed destined for extra time until Watkins, receiving a pass from fellow substitute Cole Palmer, struck a decisive goal into the far corner. King Charles, in a message to England coach Gareth Southgate and his players, expressed his admiration and offered his best wishes for the upcoming final.

“My wife and I join all our family in wishing you the warmest congratulations on reaching the final of the UEFA European Championship – and in sending our very best wishes for Sunday’s match,” he said. “If I may encourage you to secure victory before the need for any last minute wonder-goals or another penalties drama, I am sure the stresses on the nation’s collective heart rate and blood pressure would be greatly alleviated! Good luck, England.”

England, who had previously required penalties to defeat Switzerland in the quarter-finals, will face Spain in the final on Sunday. This match comes three years after their loss to Italy in the 2021 Euro final.
