PDP Wins Abakaliki North State Constituency in Supplementary Election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Abakaliki north state constituency Nwoke Chidi has been declared winner of the supplementary election conducted on Saturday 15th April, 2023.

The PDP candidate polled a total of 5988 votes to defeat his closest contender Maxwell Umahi of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Professor Smart Otu, a professor of criminology and security studies at Alex Ekweme Federal University announced the results.

The supplementary election was held in 76 polling units across 7LGAs of Ebonyi state.

The March 18 Governorship and State House of Assembly elections was marred by vote buying, voter suppression and disruptions by political thugs, stirring a need for the supplementary polls.

While the supplementary polls were general peaceful in the state, there was general voter apathy across most the centres where elections held.
